Yahtzee for Beer – The Rules

Prologue

I don’t know when they started playing Yahtzee in my fraternity. All I know was it was there. The first game I played was in Crutch’s room as a pledge. I don’t remember who won. It doesn’t matter. I also don’t remember why Bradley Hatt and I decided to write these rules. It was an odd circumstance if I’m being honest. We were in Lisa’s apartment on the corner of 22nd and Melrose where we never were, drinking Elephant Ale which we never drank. But that’s what we did and perhaps it was those circumstances that led to us creating, in my opinion, a perfect drinking game.

YFB has a beginning middle and an end (as most stories do.) There is always a winner and a loser, but nobody cares. It can be played with as few as two and as many as 30 (teams are recommended in groups over 12.) Everyone is engaged in the play of the game. It lasts about an hour and, most importantly, everyone drinks the same amount. All things that are rare in the world of drinking games.

During that afternoon the rules fell together organically as Bradley Hatt and I played and drank our way through that case of Elephant Ale. I am happy to say that the rules presented below are very much unchanged from that day. I hope you enjoy them and play well!

Social!

NOTE: My new friend Brie says you don’t need a game to drink. I say drink six!
